This was my (Emily’s) skin just a few years ago:

So when I say I have tried everything when it comes to skincare, I mean it. I’ve tried every viral product, every treatment, every facial… you name it. I have tried the $15 products… the $200 products… and everything in between.

Skincare is one area where expensive does not automatically mean better, and I will be the first person to tell you that. I use a $10 facewash daily that continues to serve my skin well.

Over the last few years, my skin has completely transformed from that photo above. While there obviously isn’t one magical product responsible for that, every single product below has played a role in helping clear, calm and improve my skin.

I was not blessed with naturally beautiful or clear skin (which I think is important to note.) I have friends who barely have to wash their faces… and their skin looks phenomenal. Not me. My skin is something I continually have to work at… and I still get breakouts. If you’re like me… I know you’ll find something here that you love.

These are the products that healed my skin barrier, and made it what it is today. These are the tried and true products I use every single day.

Are some of them painfully expensive? Yes.

But unfortunately, some expensive shit is just worth it. Let’s dive in.

The Blue Balm We Will Never Shut Up About

If you have been here for any amount of time, you have probably heard us talk about this one.

The first thing you notice is the beautiful blue color. It comes from blue tansy - a tiny little flower that has insane healing properties.

It’s calming, nourishing, incredibly luxe and one of those products that makes your nighttime skincare routine feel like you’re in a spa. I like to apply this right after I get out of the shower at night after cleansing. The best time to put it on is when your skin is warm and damp. Use it as the last step in your nighttime skincare routine.

It heals, calms, protects, and you’ll wake up with stunning skin.

10000% worth it.

The Serum We Finished Down to the Last Drop

You know it’s good when you’re holding the bottle upside down trying to get the final drops out. This is that product.

It was developed by an injector, which initially caught our attention, but the formula is what kept us using it. It contains a special peptide that is said to mimic the effects of botox. This is our glass skin favorite. I like to spray my Evian spray on my face and then I apply this… so my skin really drinks in the hydration.

Your skin will look smoother, healthier, glowier, younger — all the things we are trying to accomplish without having 47 products sitting on our bathroom counter.

If you’re going to invest in a serum, this is the type of product I think is worth spending more on.

The Eye Cream That Is Actually Worth Buying

If you have been looking for a really good eye cream and are willing to spend a little more for something you’re actually going to use consistently, this is it.

The formula is made by monks, which somehow makes it feel even more fitting for a post titled Expensive Shit That’s Worth It.

We use the tiniest amount, so one container lasts forever.

The Moisturizer We Hate to Admit Is Worth the Price

Listen, spending this much on a moisturizer feels a little unhinged. We know.

But the U Beauty SUPER Hydrator is unfortunately one of those products where once you start using it, you understand the hype.

It is SO hydrating without feeling heavy or greasy, makes your skin look instantly more plump and gives you an amazing glow, and somehow gives you that my skin is just naturally this good look. We especially love it when our skin is feeling dry, dull or like we’ve done a little too much to it.

And a little goes a LONG way, which is what we tell ourselves every time we have to repurchase it.

There are plenty of moisturizers we love at lower price points, so are we saying you need to spend this much on one? Absolutely not.

Are we saying that if you want to splurge, this is the one we would spend our money on?

Unfortunately, yes.

The French Retinol Cream We Use Every. Single. Day.

This one deserves a permanent spot in the routine.

It’s a French retinol cream that we use constantly, and if you are looking for something that feels like a serious skincare product without completely destroying your skin barrier, pay attention.

The trick is sandwiching it between layers of moisturizer — especially if you’re sensitive or newer to retinol.

We love that it feels effective without making us want to peel our faces off.

And consistency is everything with products like this. The fact that we actually want to keep using it says a lot.

The Cleansing Balm That Makes Taking Your Makeup Off Slightly Less Annoying

There are people who enjoy taking their makeup off at night.

We are suspicious of those people.

For the rest of us, having a cleansing balm that actually gets EVERYTHING off makes the process significantly less painful.

We use this as our first cleanse, massage it in, leave it on for a few minutes when we have the patience, and then wash everything away before going in with our regular cleanser.

Makeup, sunscreen, the remnants of whatever we put on our faces 14 hours earlier — gone.

If you are breakout-prone or constantly notice makeup lingering around your hairline, double cleansing is one of those little changes that can make a huge difference.

Okay, So What’s Actually Worth Splurging On?

We are never going to tell you that you need an entire routine filled with expensive skincare. You absolutely do not.

There are drugstore products we swear by and expensive products we would never tell you to waste your money on.

But these?

These are the exceptions.

They’ve survived the testing, the overflowing skincare cabinets, the “wait, why did we buy this?” moments and the constant rotation of new products coming through our doors.

If we’re telling you to spend the money, you know we mean it.

Cashmere Set:

I genuinely don't know how this is still in stock... especially in every color. This was our #1 bestseller last year and this year for good reason. We practically live in these once the weather cools down, whether we're at home, traveling, or running errands. They're unbelievably soft, so cozy, and somehow make you look instantly put together with almost no effort. If you've been thinking about grabbing one, this is your sign. Faux Fur Bomber:

If you know me, you know I'm a fur girl through and through. The bigger the coat, the better. The second I saw this bomber, I knew it had to come home with me. It's so good in person, incredibly soft, and instantly makes even the simplest outfit feel elevated. It also comes in another color-way, is under $200, and is one of those statement pieces you'll reach for year after year.

Funnel Neck Coat:

I don't know if it was the funnel neck or the silhouette that pulled me in, but I'm so glad I gave this coat a chance. It is absolute perfection. The quality genuinely feels far more expensive than the $120 price tag, and the fit is so flattering. I'm obsessed with this color, but it also comes in navy, which would be equally chic and timeless.

$35 Leggings:

If you've been here for a while, then you already know my Beyond Yoga leggings are my ride-or-dies. I've tried what feels like a thousand less expensive versions over the years, and nothing has ever come close... until now. I randomly grabbed these to try on while we were shopping in-store and was genuinely shocked by how similar they felt. They're incredibly soft, so flattering, and only $35, which honestly feels wild.

Delicate Tank Top:

This might have been the biggest surprise of the entire sale. I grabbed it thinking it would just be a good layering tank... and then I didn't want to take it off. The fit is so flattering, the fabric is incredibly soft, and I immediately went back for every color. This is one of those basics you'll wear on repeat all fall long, whether it's layered under jackets and cardigans or worn on its own while it's still warm.

Bootcut Jeans:

These jeans completely surprised me. My stylist pulled them for me, and honestly, I never would have picked them up myself. The second I put them on, my jaw dropped. They're incredibly flattering, so comfortable, and made me feel so confident immediately. This is your sign to step outside your comfort zone because I was convinced these weren't "my style"... and now they're one of my favorite purchases from the entire sale. The fact that they're somehow still fully in stock is beyond me.

Trench Coat:

Last but definitely not least... the trench coat. Every single year I spend hours researching the sale to find one investment piece that somehow flies under everyone’s radar. The one that’s timeless, beautifully made, and will live in your closet for years. This year, it’s this coat.

I have owned and loved a designer version for years that retails for over $4,000, and I was genuinely shocked when I found this. The fabric composition is nearly identical, the silhouette is so classic, and it gives you that same elevated look for a fraction of the price. The fact that it’s still fully in stock honestly blows my mind. If I could only recommend one thing from this year’s sale, this would be it.

They work whether you're curvy, straight, tall, or petite. They have a little bit of stretch, they are wide through the One pair, every body type, zero stress — dress 'em up or down and they just work.

There is a reason these black pants are everywhere right now. They are unbelievably comfortable, so flattering, and the kind of piece you'll reach for over and over again. I wear them for travel, running errands, working from home, and everything in between. They dress up beautifully with a blazer and heels or can be kept casual with sneakers and a tee. Truly one of those wardrobe staples you'll wonder how you lived without.

Currently Watching:

Elin Hilderbrand has been one of my favorite beach read authors for over 20 years - since I was in college. Most of her books take place on Nantucket, where our family used to spend time in the summer. For me, they feel nostalgic for obvious reasons… but the characters and the story lines draw you in no matter if you’re familiar with the island or not. Once you start reading her books, you won’t be able to stop. For as long as I can remember, Elin has come out with a new beach read every summer. The Five Star Weekend came out in 2023. Recently (I believe in 2024) she announced she would be coming out with her last summer novel - which was a total blow to all of us ladies who wait with bated breath for her new release every summer. Anyhow - they just made her 2023 book into a series on Peacock - starring Jennifer Garner. Watch it for the female friendships. Watch it for the beautiful Nantucket scenery. Watch it if you need an excuse to have a good cry. It was easy watching. Nothing life changing. But cute, sweet, and it did the book justice.

It has everything I already love about the original, but with the prettiest subtle bronzy glow that makes your skin look healthy, warm, and naturally radiant. It's not glittery or over-the-top—just that effortless "I got eight hours of sleep and spent the day outside" kind of glow. I have been reaching for it nonstop, and I can already tell it's going to be one of my favorite beauty launches of the year.

Favorite Recipe:

I have made this watermelon salad more times than I can count lately. It is so fresh, light, and refreshing—the perfect summer recipe. I also love that it comes together in just a few minutes because, between working, driving four kids to sports, appointments, and everything else on the calendar, I don't have time for complicated recipes. This one feels a little elevated but couldn't be easier to throw together, and it's always a crowd favorite.

Best Amazon Find:

Was no one going to tell me how good this was? Seriously... consider me impressed. This has become such a staple in my routine so quickly. It's packed with ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and squalane, so it deeply hydrates while helping strengthen your skin barrier over time. I love that it's lightweight, absorbs so quickly, layers beautifully under moisturizer and makeup, and leaves my skin looking healthy and hydrated without ever feeling greasy. Definitely one that's earned a permanent spot in my routine.

It is truly unfortunate that this pajama/loungewear brand is worth every penny because she is not cheap. 😅 That being said, I genuinely cannot stop wearing it or buying more. This new orange color is unreal and gives me all the summer vibes. The fabric literally feels like butter and somehow makes lounging around the house feel luxurious.

For makeup, I'm still completely loyal to the Iconic London Illuminator. If you want your makeup to look more expensive, this is the product. It gives the most beautiful, lit-from-within glow without looking glittery or overdone. I love mixing a few drops into my foundation for an all-over radiant finish, but it's just as gorgeous tapped onto the high points of your face after makeup for an extra glow. It's one of those products I genuinely can't imagine my routine without. Check out the before and after below. The difference is honestly wild.

Fast forward an hour and somehow you’re staring at a suitcase full of “just in case” outfits.

We’ve all been there.

Earlier this year, Emily learned a packing trick from a friend before a trip to Italy, and it completely changed the way we think about travel wardrobes. It isn’t about being a minimalist—it just makes getting dressed on vacation ridiculously easy.

Meet the “Sudoku” packing method.

Instead of packing complete outfits, you pack categories.

Choose:

• 3 Tops

• 3 Bottoms

• 3 Layers

The only rule? Every single piece has to work with every other piece.

That’s it.

Once you lay everything out, it looks like this:

Top • Layer • Bottom

Bottom • Top • Layer

Layer • Bottom • Top

Three tops × three bottoms × three layers = 27 outfit combinations before you’ve even added accessories.

Throw in a couple pairs of shoes, a few handbags, sunglasses, jewelry, or a scarf and suddenly you have over 30 different looks that all fit inside one carry-on.

This is the only way I’ve eaten hot dogs my entire life. We call them marinated dogs; Em’s family calls them Ken dogs. My dad, Ken, raised me on these, and now they’re a summer staple for my own kids.

It’s not really a recipe, just an extra step before you put them on the grill. Slice your hot dogs down the middle and butterfly them open (not too much — you need them to stay intact), then squirt ketchup into that slit you made. Grilling them open with the ketchup inside lets the extra grease cook out and the ketchup cook into the meat. It just makes them so much juicier and more flavorful. I promise you’ll never eat a hot dog the “normal” way again.

I’ve carried on the tradition over the years, but for the Fourth of July I like to switch things up and make a berry version instead. It’s simple, festive, and honestly one of those desserts that people think took way more effort than it actually did.

Which is great news because if you’ve been around for a while, you know baking and I aren’t exactly best friends. I am not the person meticulously measuring ingredients and following directions to the letter. Cooking? Sure. Baking? Absolutely not.

Thankfully, crisps are incredibly forgiving. Once you’ve made one, you’ve basically made them all. You can swap in whatever fruit looks best at the store, use what you already have at home, and somehow it always turns out delicious. It’s the perfect dessert for people who like the idea of baking but don’t necessarily possess the patience for it.

And for anyone who has ever wondered the difference between a cobbler, crumble, and crisp: a cobbler has a biscuit or dough-like topping, a crumble is made with a buttery flour and sugar topping, and a crisp includes oats for that extra crunchy goodness.

Now excuse me while I pretend I’m making this for a holiday gathering when we all know I’ll be standing over the pan eating it straight from the dish

Emily’s 4th of July Berry Crisp Recipe:

Berry Crisp Ingredients:

Filling:

• 2 cups of raspberries

• 2 cups of blueberries

• 1 cup of blackberries

• 1 cup strawberries

• *** You can use frozen berries too if you’d like, just be sure you thaw them.***

• 1/2 cup sugar

• 1/4 cup flour (if you are making this recipe GF – I substituted coconut flour and it was absolutely delicious)

• 2 tablespoons cornstarch (you can omit this – but it makes the filling nice and thick)

• sprinkle of cinnamon

• 1 tablespoon lemon zest

  Topping: This is for a double batch. I like to add more when heat it up – if I’m not serving it immediately – so I always like to have extra topping on hand!

  • 2 cups of rolled oats – (you can use GF or regular)

  • 1 cup flour (if you are making this recipe GF – sub coconut flour)

  • 1.5 cup brown sugar

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 cup cold butter cut into small cubes

  • salt – to taste

  • cinnamon – to taste

  Berry Crisp Recipe Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees

  • Grease the inside of a 9×13 or 10×14 baking dish (I linked a couple that are much cheaper than the ones that we have – and the one with the bamboo traveling tray – GAME CHANGER)

  • Rinse all berries

  • Gently mix all filling ingredients together in a large bowl

  • Pour filling ingredients into the cake dish

  • Now make the topping

  • Mix all the dry ingredients

  • Then incorporate the cold butter cubes and knead the mixture with your hands. This takes a second – so be patient – and be sure to take your rings off before you do this part!

  • Sprinkle the topping mixture liberally over the berry mixture

  • Bake at 350 degrees for an hour!

  • Serve warm – with homemade whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

  • Don’t forget a sprig of mint – it is the perfect fresh accompaniment!

  • You can also make this recipe in individual ramekins – for a real show stopper – if you are entertaining at home! I LOVE to make it that way. 🙂

Summer is officially here, which means it’s time to bring back one of our all-time favorite warm weather drinks. If you’ve been around for a while, you know we love a good cocktail on occasion (usually when we’re on vacation)… and this Cucumber Melon Rosé Sangria is so refreshing at the end of a hot summer day.

Take your favorite Rosé, add watermelon, cucumber, blueberries, a little mint, and some bubbles, and you’ve got yourself the kind of drink that makes you want to cancel your plans and sit outside all afternoon.

The best part? Sangria is basically impossible to mess up. Too sweet? Add more wine. Too strong? Add more fruit. Need more bubbles? We trust you’ll figure that one out. It’s the cocktail equivalent of “measure with your heart,” and honestly, that’s our favorite kind of recipe.

Whether you’re hosting friends, sitting by the pool, or hiding from your children in the backyard for five minutes of peace and quiet, this one deserves a spot on your summer menu.

Cucumber Watermelon Rosé Sangria (serves 8):

Ingredients:
1 bottle of dry rosé
1 bottle of prosecco or sparkling wine
1/4 cup triple sec
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 cucumber – peeled and sliced (half for simple syrup, half for sangria)
1/2 small watermelon – cubed (approximately 2 cups)
*this recipe works best with a firm watermelon – if it is too mushy it will fall apart when combined
1/2 cup blueberries
Mint (for garnish)

Directions:
First, make the cucumber simple syrup.

Cucumber Simple Syrup:
1/2 of the cucumber
1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup water
Peel half of the cucumber and slice into quarter inch slices
Set aside
Heat sugar and water over medium heat until sugar dissolves
Pour sugar water over cucumbers
Let cool (approximately 20 minutes)
Strain and reserve the liquid.
You will have more simple syrup than you need, but when made this way, it should last for about a month in the fridge in a closed container.

***Note: you can simplify this recipe by omitting the cucumber simple syrup – although it really makes the cocktail so much better. If you decide to omit the syrup, just use 1/4 cup light agave syrup instead. More to taste if you like a sweeter sangria.

Now, in a large pitcher place the 2 cups cubed watermelon (I like to freeze the cubed watermelon for about an hour before assembly – it keeps the drink very chilled), 1/2 cup blueberries, and the remaining half of the sliced cucumber. Add the rosé, triple sec and 1/2 cup of the cucumber simple syrup. Put in the fridge and chill/combine for at least half an hour. When ready to serve, add the bottle of prosecco, stir to combine, and pour over ice. Top with mint and enjoy!
